5 Card Plus 2

Introduction

I noticed 5 Card Plus 2 at the Durango casino in Las Vegas in October, 2024. Like many video poker variants, it is an optional feature on top of multi-play games. The player must double his bet to have a chance to get two extra cards added to his hand.

Rules

  1. 5 Card Plus 2 is an optional feature to multi-player video poker games.
  2. If the player pays ten credits per play, he shall invoke the feature. Wins are still based on a 5-credit bet per play.
  3. In addition the pay table may get a boost if invoking the feature, in particular paying 100 for straight flush when it usually pays 50.
  4. If the player gets a three of a kind or better on any play on the draw, with a stated probability in the rules, he may get two extra cards. This probability tends to be about 35%.
  5. Hands that get the two extra cards shall be paid normally for the five-card hand and then again on the seven-card hand. The separate pay table is used for the seven-card hand.

Example

In the hand above, I got a three of a kind on the deal, which I held.

One of the three of a kinds improved to a full house on the draw. The total win on the five card hands was 4×15 + 30 = 90. Three of the five hands were awarded two extra cards. These seven-card hands were a three of a kind, four of a kind (5's to K's) and a full house (on the bottom hand, the second card from the right of the five-card hand is a 3 of clubs). The win on the seven card hands was 15+250+60 = 325. The total win was 90+325 = 415.

Double Bonus

Following is the pay table for Double Bonus found on a $0.05 machine at the Durango. Note the boosted pays for four 2's-4's and a straight flush. Wins are based are per credit (so multiply by 5 to get the total win based on a max bet of 10 credits per play).

Analysis

I am afraid I have not analyzed this game yet. It would be a tricky, tedious and error-prone analysis. Given the low number of placements at the time of this writing and difficulty of the analysis, I have no plans to analyze it at this time.

If the makers of this game, King Show Games, would like to share with me their own analysis, I would be happy to post it here with all due credit to them.
