The first time I saw Hot Roll Poker was July 1, 2015 at the Suncoast in Las Vegas. The idea is simple. If the player doubles his bet then he will be eligible for multipliers based on the roll of two dice.
Rules
Hot Roll is an optional feature on top of three-, five-, and ten-play video poker. The rules for the feature are as follows.
To be eligible for the feature the player must pay ten coins per line as opposed to the usual five. The extra amount bet is a fee that qualifies the player for the bonus feature.
The multiplier is awarded with a probability of 1 in 6. The multiplier can be revealed either before or after the deal.
When the player does earn a multiplier it shall be determined by the roll of two dice. For example, a 5 and 3 would result in a multiplier of 8.
Example
In the picture above I was dealt a two pair with an 11x multiplier.
I held the two pair and one of them improved to a full house. In the 9-6 Jacks or Better game I was playing, a two pair paid 2x and a full house 9x. The bet per line was five coins and the multiplier was 11. So, the total win was 5×11×(4×2 + 1×9) = 55 × 17 = 935 coins.
The strategy is exactly the same as conventional video poker for any given game and pay table.
Return
Given that the probability of multiplier is 1/6 and the average multiplier when earned is 7, the overall average multiplier is (1/6)×7 + (5/6)×1 = 12/6 = 2. Since the player must double his bet, the return is exactly the same as for the base pay table. So, conventional video poker returns may be used for Hot Roll Poker.
The following tables show the games, pay tables, and return for Hot Roll Poker. They were kindly provided to me by IGT, the game maker.
