Super Draw 6 Poker

Introduction

 

Super Draw 6 Poker is yet another video poker variant by IGT. The humdinger to this one is the player always gets an extra card on the draw. In addition to the standard six-card pays in the pay table, there are some others. The catch? The player must pay a price equal to his original bet to invoke the six-card feature.

Rules

 
  1. The game is based on conventional 3-, 5-, and 10-play video poker.
  2. If the player makes a max coin bet in the base game, then he may double his bet to get a sixth card on the draw of every hand. This additional wager is a fee to invoke the feature and never returned.
  3. If the feature is invoked, in addition to the usual pays for each winning hand, some additional six-card hands will be added to the pay table.
  4. The player will be dealt five cards on the deal.
  5. The player will always get one more card on the draw than he discarded.
  6. Each hand will be paid according to the highest possible win only.
 

Example

 

In the image below you can see I was dealt three deuces on the deal.

On the draw the top hand improved to a full house, which paid 45 coins. On the middle hand I improved to four deuces, thanks to the 6th card, which paid 400 coins. The bottom hand remained a three of a kind, for 15 coins. My total win was 45+400+15=460 coins.

Return Tables

The following tables show my analysis of various return tables. The return column is the product of the win, probability, and 0.5. The reason for dividing by 2 is the player must bet two units and the return shown is based on the total amount bet.

Following is the return table for 9-6 Double Double Bonus. The lower right cell shows a return of 99.32%. The standard deviation of this game is 6.710179.

Following is the return table for 40-10-6-5 Bonus Poker Deluxe. The pay of 40 refers to the win for two three of a kinds. This should not be confused with the 10-6-5 double bonus game on VideoPoker.com, which has the same pay table, except pays 50 for two three of a kinds. I tend to think that this was an error by VideoPoker.com. The return for that game, by the way, is 0.993703. Getting back to the 40-10-6-5 pay table, the lower right cell shows a return of 99.13%. The standard deviation of this game is 5.559914.

There is a Double Bonus game at VideoPoker.com, which follows the same liberal 10-6-5 pay table above, except pays 50 for two three of a kinds, instead of 40. The return under that pay table is 99.3703%. I mention that here because it is evidently not an official IGT pay table and was probably an error in setting up the game at VideoPoker.com.

Methodology

 

I used a brute force looping program to analyze Super Draw 6. To cycle through all 27,906,522,724,080 possible combinations of cards on the deal and draw for any one pay table takes my program about 15 hours.
