Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson to miss next 4 - Games with Shoulder Injury
Introduction
On Wednesday, October 11th, 2023 the Indianapolis Colts highly - talented and exciting rookie quarterback, Anthony Richardson, was placed on the National Football League’s injured reserve list which means that he will have to miss at least the Indianapolis Colts’ upcoming next 4 - NFL regular - season games due to a right shoulder injury.
The Injury
Richardson just so happened to endure an AC joint sprain during the Indianapolis Colts’ victory over the Tennessee Titans last Sunday. The Indianapolis Colts have been extensively consulting with doctors in order to establish the approximate length of Anthony's absence from the team with this shoulder injury, and now they are under the impression that Richardson will miss somewhere between 4 and 8 - weeks which is dependent upon on his rehabilitation and whether or not surgery will be required.
The Indianapolis Colts Schedule without Anthony Richardson
If Richardson misses just 4 - games, he will be out for the upcoming games at the Jacksonville Jaguars, home versus the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints, and another road game against the Carolina Panthers. Following that 4 - game stretch of the season, the Indianapolis Colts will play against the New England Patriots in Frankfurt, Germany, followed by an NFL week - 11 bye for the Indianapolis Colts.
The Indianapolis Colts head coach, Shane Steichen, was asked on Wednesday, October 11th, 2023 whether or not there is a chance that Richardson may have to miss the remainder of the 2023 - 2024 NFL season, and Steichen did not rule that possibility out as of now.
"We'll see. We're still evaluating with the doctors," the Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen stated.
The Indianapolis Colts this NFL Season
The Indianapolis Colts are currently sitting with an overall record of 3 and 2 right now, and they are tied for the lead of the AFC South division of the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars as the Indianapolis Colts are heading into their week - 6 match - up with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Gardner Minshew, who previously was a Jacksonville Jaguars NFL draft pick, will start the rematch of an NFL week - 1 game in which the Jacksonville Jaguars won with a final score of 31 to 21. Minshew who had to enter the game in relief of Richardson versus the Tennessee Titans and he played very well by completing 11 of his 14 - pass attempts which was good for 155 - passing yards over the course of 2 - plus quarters of game action last weekend.
Gardner has already seen considerable football game action this year because of earlier medical issues with Richardson and a concussion that he suffered earlier on this season. The veteran back - up quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts has completed 68.7 % of his 83 - total pass attempts for 553 - passing yards, and he has yet to throw an interception so far during a game this year.
Last Sunday's shoulder injury was the 3rd - time that Richardson has had an injury issue this so far this season. Anthony was the 4th - overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft last April, and he has now left 3 - separate games precipitately.
Richardson had to be pulled out of the game during the final minutes of the Indianapolis Colts season opener versus the Jacksonville Jaguars after taking a hard hit to his knee, then he missed the Indianapolis Colts' NFL week - 3 contest against the Baltimore Ravens following Anthony suffering a concussion versus the Houston Texans in the previous game before that.
Anthony Richardson may have to start playing a little more conservatively and run the ball less as he has been having trouble staying healthy so far early on during his rookie season in the National Football League. If he continues to play this way Richardson may not last very long in the league.
"It gets tough when a guy gets dinged up, and he's been dinged up," Steichen goes on to say. "He's obviously a very, very talented player and it's tough. But we have a lot of faith in Gardner to step in and go operate the way he's been doing."
Of Minshew, who spent time with Steichen during his previous stint as the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator, the Indianapolis Colts head coach explained, "I think he's an elite processor of the game. You've got a guy that can process the game quickly and make quick decisions. He's really good, he's accurate, he knows where to go with the football at the right time and the right place and he's been awesome for us."
The Indianapolis Colts’ Quarterback Depth Chart
The Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Sam Ehlinger, will be Minshew's back - up at the moment. The Indianapolis Colts have also signed the former Minnesota Vikings draft pick in Kellen Mond to their practice squad on Wednesday, October 11th, 2023.
