- Jackie Robinson signs a $35,000 contract which was the largest contract in Brooklyn Dodgers' history at that time.
January 25th, 1939
- Joe Louis knocks out John Henry Lewis in the first round for the heavyweight boxing title.
January 26th, 1951
- Mel Ott and Jimmie Foxx were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
January 27th, 1982
- The Philadelphia Phillies traded Larry Bowa and Ryne Sandberg to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Ivan DeJesus.
January 28th, 1996
- The Dallas Cowboys become the first NFL franchise to win three Super Bowls in a span of four seasons, as they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27 to 17 in Super Bowl XXX at Sun Devil Stadium located in Tempe, Arizona. It is the Cowboys' 5th Super Bowl championship. Defensive Back Larry Brown is named Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXX.

January 30th, 2000
- The St. Louis Rams win the NFL Championship for the first time since 1951 by defeating the Tennessee Titans 23 to 16 in Super Bowl XXXIV at the Georgia Dome located in Atlanta, Georgia.
