- First World Series comes to an end with the Pittsburgh Pirates defeating the Boston Americans five games to three.
October 14, 1979
- The Great One, Wayne Gretsky scores his first goal in the NHL.
October 15, 1988
- Kirk Gibson of the Los Angeles Dodgers hits a 2 run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the first game in the 1988 World Series.
October 16, 1988
- Orel Hirsheiser becomes first pitcher in the MLB to pitch shutout in playoffs and the World Series.
October 17, 1954
- Adrian Burk of the Philadelphia Eagles passes for seven touchdowns.
October 18, 1974
- Chicago Bulls player Nate Thurmond becomes the first player in the NBA to finish a game with a quadruple double. He completed the game with 22 points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists and 12 blocks.
October 19, 1919
- The Cincinnati Reds defeat the Chicago White Sox 5 games to 3 games in the 1919 World Series. This was the World Series scandal known as the Black Sox scandal in which players from the Chicago White Sox threw the series for money.
