October 20th, 1963
- Jim Brown sets the new single season rushing record in the National Football League with 1,863 yards.
October 21st, 1975
- Carlton Fisk hits a home run in the 12th inning of game 6 in the 1975 World Series to defeat the Cincinnati Reds with the final score of 7-6.
October 22nd, 1939
- The first time an NFL game is broadcasted on television. The Philadelphia Eagles vs. The Brooklyn Dodgers.
October 23rd, 1993
- Joe Carter of the Toronto Blue Jays hits the second ever World Series winning home run. The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Philadelphia Phillies four games to two games.
October 24th, 1989
- Game 3 of the 1989 World Series resumes after a ten day delay caused by the Loma Prieta earthquake in the bay area. The Oakland Athletics win this game 13-7 to take a 3 games to 0 games lead over the San Francisco Giants. The World Series record for most combined home runs was set at 7. That record stood until it was eventually broken in the 2017 World Series by the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Oakland A’s tied the record for most home runs by one team in a single World Series game with 5 as the other team to accomplish that was the 1928 New York Yankees.
October 25th, 1987
- The Minnesota Twins win their first World Series championship as they defeated the Saint Louis Cardinals 4 games to 3 games in the 1987 World Series.
October 26th, 1993
- The Carolina Panthers expansion team joins the NFL as the 29th franchise in the league. This was the first expansion team to join the NFL since 1976.
