- Joe DiMaggio wins his third Most Valuable Player Award as he beat out Ted Williams by only one vote.

- NHL goalie Georges Vezina collapses during a game.

- The Chicago Bears defeated the Detroit Lions in the first NFL game to be broadcasted nationally.
