Introduction

Octopus Gaming is an online betting software group that is based out of Antigua. The group was founded in 2017 and develops an array of different casino games, namely video slots, table games, and video poker machines. The software is offered to casino clients, who then in turn have them available for players to test their luck with. The casino group does offer both desktop and mobile compatibility for its games, putting it in line with other software developers we see.

The game selection available from Octopus is decent in size, but the games themselves do look a bit dated, especially when you compare them to larger software developers. The game themes are decent, but many of the features run together.

Octopus holds a gaming license through the jurisdiction of Curacao, which is basically worthless, as the jurisdiction has done next to nothing to help enforce betting disputes between customers and casinos. In the end, Octopus is more or less an average developer that doesn’t do much to make itself stand out.

Slot machines

I would say Octopus slots were cutting edge, if it were the year 2001. Most, if not all, of them are five-reel games with a free spin bonus and maybe something where you pick icons or wins are determined for you. The graphics and sound are all vintage 2001 too. They have innocent fun themes, which may attract those player who like to kill time as opposed to playing for a rush of excitement. As for the return, I have no idea. None of the games I tried mentioned them in the help files or game descriptions.

Blackjack

There is no help file, so I can't piece together all the rules. However, here is what I can say from playing it:

• Number of decks: ?
• Dealer stands on soft 17
• Dealer peeks at hole card for blackjack
• Double on any two cards allowed
• Double after split allowed
• Surrender not allowed
• Splitting unlike tens, like king-queen, not allowed (but you shouldn't anyway)
• Number of re-splits: ? (but few Internet casinos allow more than one split per initial hand)

Using my blackjack house edge calculator and assuming six decks and no re-splitting, and I get a house edge of 0.46%.

I should also give due credit for a basic strategy button, which is surprisingly correct. Most Internet casinos post one associated with a different set of rules than what they offer. When it comes to an understanding of game mathematics, it is not difficult to beat the curve in this business.

Double Exposure

Here are Octopus' configurable double exposure rules:

• Eight decks
• Tied blackjack is a push
• Dealer hits soft 17
• Player may double any two cards
• Player may split once only (no re-splitting)
• Double after split allowed

I get a house edge of 1.29% under these rules.

Roulette

Octopus' offers a single-zero roulette game. The house edge on every bet is 2.70%.

Keno

Octopus offers a standard keno game, where the player may pick up to 15 spots. The following table shows the pay table, return, and hit frequency for 1 to 15 picks.

The table shows the best odds are on the pick-13 at 94.90%.
